Exploring the link between VDR rs2228570 and uterine leiomyoma in Iranian women
Egyptian Journal of Medical Human Genetics, doi:10.1016/j.ejmhg.2015.08.007
Shirin Shahbazi,
Evidences are growing toward an inhibitory role of vitamin D3 in uterine leiomyoma pathogenesis. Uterine leiomyoma commonly affects women of reproductive age and is referred to as one of the most common indications for hysterectomy, worldwide. The effects of vitamin D are mediated through the vitamin D receptor. A single nucleotide polymorphism of the VDR gene results in longer protein with decreased activity. The present study has focused on the distribution of FokI polymorphism in Iranian patients with uterine leiomyoma. Using the PCR-RFLP method 45 cases and 53 controls were assessed. The results demonstrated a correlation between VDR TT genotype and uterine leiomyoma by Odds Ratio of 1.886 (CI, .767–4.640). The examination of heterozygous CT genotype also showed the same result by Odds Ratio of 1.875 (CI, .629–5.590).
This study lends support for an increased risk of uterine leiomyoma associated with the VDR rs2228570 polymorphism. To the best of our knowledge this is the first report regarding VDR FokI polymorphism in leiomyoma patients.

For those with gene problems, generally just need more vitamin D

- Overview Women and Vitamin D
- Uterine fibroids (hysterectomy) 32 percent more likely if less than 20 ng vitamin D – May 2013
- Benefits of Vitamin D often limited by genes
- Endometriosis treated, and perhaps prevented, by vitamin D and Omega-3 - updated Fall 2019
Endometriosis is another reason for hysterectomy
Vitamin D Receptor category has the following
Vitamin D tests cannot detect Vitamin D Receptor (VDR) problems
A poor VDR restricts Vitamin D from getting in the cells
It appears that 30% of the population has a poor VDR (40% of the Obese )
A poor VDR increases the risk of 55 health problems click here for details
The risk of 44 diseases at least double with poor Vitamin D Receptor as of Oct 2019
VDR at-home test $29 - results not easily understood in 2016
There are hints that you may have inherited a poor VDR
Compensate for poor VDR by increasing one or more:
Increasing | Increases |
1) Vitamin D supplement Sun, Ultraviolet -B | Vitamin D in the blood and thus in the cells |
2) Magnesium | Vitamin D in the blood AND in the cells |
3) Omega-3 | Vitamin D in the cells |
4) Resveratrol | Vitamin D Receptor |
5) Intense exercise | Vitamin D Receptor |
6) Get prescription for VDR activator paricalcitol, maxacalcitol? | Vitamin D Receptor |
7) Quercetin (flavonoid) | Vitamin D Receptor |
8) Zinc is in the VDR | Vitamin D Receptor |
9) Boron | Vitamin D Receptor ?, etc |
10) Essential oils e.g. ginger, curcumin | Vitamin D Receptor |
11) Progesterone | Vitamin D Receptor |
12) Infrequent high concentration Vitamin D Increases the concentration gradient | Vitamin D in the cells |
Note: If you are not feeling enough benefit from Vitamin D, you might try increasing VDR activation. You might feel the benefit within days of adding one or more of the above
