Colon Cancer and Gastric Cancer rates both vary by 10X around the world

Taiwan, for which the age-standardized incidence rates (ASRs) were used as the reference for comparison in this study, is highlighted. The dashed lines at 10 per 100000 person-years denote the threshold between low-incidence and intermediate- to high-incidence categories, consistent with International Agency for Research on Cancer recommendations and international consensus guidelines.4,7 Data were obtained from the 2024 Global Cancer Observatory: Cancer Today.1 The ASRs were adjusted to the 1976 world standard population to reflect the cohort of adults currently aged 50 years or older and to facilitate relative cross-country comparisons in this study.
