Stress of open-heart surgery significantly reduces vitamin D levels, but supplementation helps

150 RCT patients, half got three daily 50,000-unit doses of vitamin D3 (150,000 IU total)

  • stress associated with the surgery further reduced their vitamin D levels by the time they were discharged from the hospital.
