Cheap UVB lamps

Hi,

I looked around this site for an email address for the author of this wiki, but could not find one, so I am writing here.

I have a neuromuscular disorder that is presumably autoimmune in nature. I flare much worse in the winter when there is little sunlight available at my latitude. So clear is the pattern, that i have taken to spending some winter in a sunnier clime. But for the time I must remain under cloudy skies, I have considered buying a UVB lamp. I have found oral D3 to me minimally therapeutic at safe doses.

In looking at the cheapest lamp that you have listed, on it's website, they also simply sell the UVB bulbs (tubes). What is to stop me from ordering just the bulbs and installing them in a cheap shoplight? If proprietary sockets or ballast are not required, it would seem, by far the most frugal option. Also, what was your experience with the compact bulb you tried?
