Rapidly restore Vitamin D levels with 10,000 IU per kg for children in ICU – RCT 2024

VITdALIZE-KIDS Randomized Controlled Trial in Canada

Trials in Pediatric Intensive Care Units
Corrected gestational age 37 weeks to age 18 years
Up to a maximum of 400,000 IU
Estimated Study Start Date : January, 2019

Loading doses have been used to quickly restore adult Vitamin D levels for almost a century
The loading doses have been given in as little as a single day or spaced out as long as 8 weeks (50,000 IU weekly for 8 weeks is extremely common prescription)
Loading doses are typically oral, but somtimes injection or IV are used, such as when the person is unable to swallow

Personal note by Henry Lahore, founder of VitaminDWiki

  • I keep 600,000 IU of vitamin D in my car in case of emergency
    • Scores of Trauma/Surgery studies have found Vitamin D loading doses to save thousands of lives.
  • I anticipate that a loading dose will be the "standard of care" to rapidly restore vitamin D levels by 2030
    • The medical profession changes their protocols extremely slowly.
    • restoration by a maintenance dose (for example: 4,000 IU daily) takes 3-6 months
